The Board of Eduction budget exceeds guidelines this year in part due to the cost of substitute teachers. An increase of 83% to $1.9 million is being requested for substitute teachers. Why? According to Greenwich Time, so far in January this, 101 teachers (about 12% of teachers) have used up over half their sick days; what about the rest of the year? Apparently this is a chronic problem for both teachers and students, even when Covid is behind us.
