At approximately 10 am Sunday, the Greenwich Police Department responded to a call for an elderly operator who drove off the end of Steamboat Rd & landed on the rocks. The car was a Lexus with New York registration plates that drove through the wood fence between the pier and the Indian Harbor Yacht Club. Due to low tide, no water rescue was needed.
The operator sustained an ankle injury and was transported to Stamford Hospital. An investigation is underway as to why the subject drove off end of roadway.
It was the second mishap involving a vehicle tumbling into the water that police and firefighters responded to in a week. A car nearly drove into the pond at Binney Park on Thursday.
