At Wesskum Wood Road where it intersects with Binney Park in Old Greenwich, the Greenwich Department of Public Works (DPW) is responding to complaints of speeding vehicles and a lack of street lights. They are hoping to install crosswalks with solar paneled signs that flash when a pedestrian pushes the button and releases an audible message that repeats twice "yellow lights are flashing".
Residents are not too happy with these flashy and noisy signs in the middle of Binney Park. Meanwhile, the main priority of DPW is safety at all costs.
There will be a public hearing to discuss the need for these flashers, the location and alternatives that respect the scenic road character right in the heart of the park.
A hearing is scheduled for Monday, June 9th at 2pm on Zoom.
Between the Lines: Thank goodness Binney Park was designated a "Scenic Road" in 2020. That means it must come to Planning & Zoning where the character of the road will be considered as well as pedestrian safety.
