Democrats deny the word sanctuary jurisdiction applies to CT

A battle is brewing between the Federal Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and State of CT officials about the definition of "sanctuary jurisdiction." The Federal government is claiming that CT and six of its towns are "sanctuary jurisdictions" and that CT is shamefully obstructing Federal immigration laws. CT officials deny this and say that the word sanctuary is a false label.

DHS has released a list of CT "sanctuary jurisdictions defying federal immigration law." On the list are the State of CT and the towns of East Haven, Hamden, Hartford, New Haven, New London and Windham. The executive order states that when local leaders demonize law enforcement and impose legal and political handcuffs that make aggressively enforcing the law impossible, crime thrives and innocent citizens and small business owners suffer.

CT Governor Lamont (D) released a statement saying that CT is being falsely labeled as a "self-identified" sanctuary state. Lamont says he is focused on making sure people feel safe in our schools, churches, and elsewhere. CT Attorney General Tong (D) says that CT is not a sanctuary state, it is a meaningless term. He said it is the policy of CT to respect, honor and protect immigrants and immigrant families in compliance with the law.

Between the Lines: The word "illegal" and "undocumented" are conveniently absent from the statements about immigrants from our CT politicians. Move along, nothing to see here.
