Tuesday's CT presidential primaries turned out to be a non-event. According to the Greenwich Time, turnout was below 10%, the lowest for any presidential primary in over 20 years. Biden carried 85% of the Democratic vote and Trump carried 78% of the Republican vote.
Biden’s closest challenge came from the "uncommitted" vote of 11%, which was led by a campaign to have voters signal their frustration over the administration’s policies toward the war in Gaza.
Trump's closest challenger Nikki Haley, came in just under 14%. Many Republicans lodged protest votes, including in Greenwich where Trump received only 70% of the votes.
Bottom Line: No alternative to Donald Trump or Joe Biden broke the threshold necessary to earn delegates. Thus, Republicans in CT will send Trump 28 delegates to their convention in Milwaukee July 15-18 and Democrats in CT will send 74 Biden delegates to their convention in Chicago August 19-23.
Early in-person voting, in place for the first time in the state, failed to help turnout.
