Despite concerns about the senior moments in his debate performance, fellow Connecticut Democrats continue to have confidence in President Biden's current leadership and future role as President for the next four years.
U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy (CT Democrat) told reporters on Friday, admitting Biden "didn't have a great night." “Every single answer from Donald Trump involved a nuclear-grade lie. There were a bunch of times where Joe Biden wasn't crisp in his answers, but he was telling you the truth.”
U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (CT Democrat) himself one of the oldest members of the Senate — conceded that while Biden “may have been bad,” he still offers a formidable contrast with Trump. “I think that Joe Biden continues to be our nominee and I think that again this election is about what he will do in the next four years, not about one night of debate performance,” Blumenthal said. “He’s had a strong four years that he can build on in the next four years.”
Gov. Ned Lamont (CT Democrat), one of Biden’s earliest promoters, referred comment to the Democratic State Central Committee. The chair of that committee, Nancy DiNardo, said that she’s fielded several calls from Democrats who were “disappointed,” by the president’s performance, but has not heard anyone argue that the party needs to find a new candidate.
U.S. Congressman Jim Himes (CT Democrat) on Sunday's Face the Nation says “Biden has a "four-year record...of setting a tone that the rest of the world says 'Wow, America is back to the decent leader that we used to believe that it was prior to the Trump administration."
