When speaking at an Indivisible Connecticut meeting last week, the CT Comptroller made some startling claims. The Connecticut Centinal captured Democrat Comptroller Sean Scanlon on video here saying "95% of elected Republicans in Connecticut hate Donald Trump and think he is an idiot."

Does his math add up? According to Ben Pronto, Chair of the CT GOP, "Sean Scanlon is charged with being able to do basic math, in his role as State Comptroller, and his statement calls into question that ability."

In fact, according to the CT Mirror story here, Ned Lamont's administration (of which Comptroller Scanlon is a part) has identified an unexpected big pile of money, almost $190 million, shortly after legislators adopted the new budget. This discovery of extra money after adopting the budget has happened in each of the last 7 years, raising questions about the reliability of the budget projections provided by CT officials.

Between the Lines: Since Trump took office, gas prices have dropped, mortgage rates are lower, egg prices are down, the border is closed, and the US Treasury posted the first surplus in June since 2017 thanks to tariffs. What is not to like about that? Meanwhile CT's economy declined -0.9% in the 1Q 2025 and the cost of living was higher in CT than almost any other state. You do the math.
