It began in New York on Wednesday afternoon June 25 when an off-duty NYPD officer was assaulted and robbed by a couple from the Bronx. They took off to the CT border on I-95 in a black SUV BMW bearing Montana registration plates.

Through Greenwich. After exiting the highway at the Greenwich border, the vehicle was involved in two motor vehicle accidents within Greenwich on East Putnam Avenue. Minor injuries were reported.

Wrong way through downtown Stamford. Police helicopters spotted them driving the wrong way on Canal Street and continuing to drive the wrong way north in the southbound lanes of Summer Street. At the intersection of Hoyt and Summer Street, a pursuing police cruiser was T-boned by a Toyota, that collided with a Sprinter van, a parked Jeep Wrangler, and a Honda SUV. While no one was hurt, all the vehicles suffered heavy damage. Four people were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Fleeing on foot at the Merritt Parkway. Reaching the Merritt Parkway at the exit 34 ramp, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and tried to hide in residential yards. Police with drones and the help of community members located and arrested the driver Joner Hernandez-Mota, 27, and passenger Betsy Bermudez, 27. Hernandez-Mota did not have a valid license and had multiple warrants in five different states. The car was involved in a strong-armed robbery earlier that day.

Between the Lines: This chase and arrest involved 80 law enforcement officers, a NYPD helicopter, drones and significant collateral damage. This, or ICE, your call.
