On Friday, citing an out-of-town move, Republican Karen Kowalski submitted her resignation from the Board of Education. She was elected in 2019, when she was the highest overall vote-getter. She was re-elected last November 2023 for a term expiring in 2027. With Kowalski’s resignation, the current members of the Board are 3 Republicans and 4 Democrats. The Republican caucus has said they have several replacements in mind.
Between the lines: Democrats have labeled her a "culture war firebrand" because of her concerns about wokeism in the schools, her desire for curriculum transparency and her support for parents' rights. What could be so wrong with that?
