
A petition to reinstate police presence on Greenwich Avenue has gathered hundreds of signatures. The hope is that the 230-member Representative Town Meeting (RTM) would consider a Sense of the Meeting Resolution (SOMR) to restore funding that was removed in 2019 for police on Greenwich Avenue.
The petitioners say police are needed to help confused drivers and pedestrians. Police are also needed to deter the rising number of arrests for organized retail theft, bank fraud, return fraud and shoplifting in the Greenwich downtown district.
The petition includes the statement "Whereas Greenwich police have warned residents of growing burglaries from nationally organized South American Theft Groups...
Between the lines: Reversing Connecticut's sanctuary state status would also help reduce the crime problem.
