An article 'Was It Something I Said?' by liberal think tank Third Way, advises Democrats to use ordinary language to win over voters. Matt Bennett, executive of Third Way, says "We are doing our best to get Democrats to talk like normal people."

For example, how many times have you heard CT Senator Chris Murphy (D) use the phrase that President Trump is a "fascist and an existential threat to democracy". The Third Wave article says Democrats and their allies use an awful lot of words and phrases that no ordinary person would ever dream of saying. The intent of this language may be to include, broaden, empathize, accept, and embrace. But to please the few, they alienate the many.

Here are some of the terms they are urging liberals to STOP using if they want to win over ordinary voters:

Showing your privilege....dialoguing....triggering....off-putting....othering....safe spaces....body shaming....systems of oppression....environmental violence....cultural appropriation....people of color...existential threat to democracy...stakeholders...the unhoused...food insecurity...birthing person....patriarchy....LGBTQIA+....incarcerated people....Latinx....communities of color....intersectionality....involuntary confinement....person who immigrated....restorative justice, etc.

James Carville, key strategist behind Bill Clinton's 1992 election, warned fellow progressives to stop adopting the language of elitist Ivy League faculty lounges. Carville said you have to speak the way regular voters speak: not Hebrew, but Yiddish.

Between the Lines: This language of progressives is no doubt a turnoff to regular people, but an even bigger turnoff is their pro-tax, big government, soft on crime, open borders agenda.
