The Old Greenwich School Building Committee is now seeking an additional $2 million to rebuild the school. That's almost a 5% increase over the $43 million approved in the current Town budget.
The additional amount was approved by the Board of Education on November 21, with Republican member Wendy Vizzo Walsh abstaining because she objected to cost projections rising year after year, stating that "shovels haven't been put into the ground yet and you're asking for more money."
Building committee chair James Waters believes that grants from the State could be held up without approval of this additional amount in the upcoming December/January budget sessions.
Plans are to start construction in the Summer of 2025, but Waters says that without the funding approval, the project could be delayed until 2026 and cost yet another $1.92 million (that's another 4% increase).
